Dryer Repair in San Diego
When a dryer takes three cycles to dry one load — or quits heating altogether — the fix is usually about heat and airflow, not a new machine. We run same-day dryer repair across San Diego, work on both gas and electric, and check the vent that half the trade skips. Flat $80 diagnostic, applied to the repair. 90-day guarantee on parts and labor.

Gas or electric, we know the platform.
The dryer problems we fix most.
Drum Turns, But No Heat
On electric dryers it's usually the heating element, a blown thermal fuse, or a failed thermostat. On gas, it's the igniter, flame sensor, or gas valve coils. We test the heat circuit end to end — and check whether a clogged vent cooked the part in the first place, so it doesn't happen again.
Takes Two or Three Cycles to Dry
The most common dryer call we get — and the one most worth fixing fast. A lint-choked vent traps heat and moisture, so the load never really dries and the machine runs itself ragged. It's also a fire risk. We clear and test the airflow, not just poke at the dryer.
Dryer Won't Start at All
Press start and nothing happens? It's usually the door switch, a blown thermal fuse, or the start switch — and on some models a broken belt locks out the motor entirely. We trace power from the outlet to the motor and find where the circuit breaks.
Motor Runs, Drum Won't Turn
You hear the motor hum but the drum sits still — that's a snapped belt, a worn idler pulley, or seized drum rollers. The belt is the usual culprit and a same-visit fix; rollers and bearings we swap as a set so it stays quiet.
Loud Thumping, Squealing, or Grinding
Each noise points somewhere. Thumping is usually flat or worn drum rollers; squealing is a dry idler or glide; grinding is the rear bearing. We pull the drum, find the worn part, and replace it before it chews up something pricier.
Shuts Off Before the Load Is Dry
A dryer that stops mid-cycle is usually overheating and tripping its safety cutoff — almost always from restricted airflow — or it's a failing thermistor feeding the board a bad read. We find why it's running hot instead of just resetting the trip.
A Burning or Hot Lint Smell
That's lint scorching on the heating element or packed in the vent — stop using the dryer and call us. It's the failure mode behind most dryer fires, and it's exactly what a proper vent clear-out and heat-circuit check prevents.
What you get on every dryer call.
No two dryer jobs are the same — a belt, a heating element, and a gas-valve repair are different work and different parts. Rather than hide that behind a flat number, here's what stays the same on every dryer repair San Diego homeowners book with us.
Six quick checks before you call.
A few dryer problems clear up in a few minutes — and they're the same ones that turn into a fire risk if you ignore them. Run these first; if it's still cold, dead, or slow afterward, that's a real repair.
Clean the lint screen — really clean it
Empty it every load. If you use dryer sheets, the film builds up invisibly — scrub the screen with soap and water once in a while. A blocked screen is the number-one cause of slow drying and overheating.
Check the vent flap outside
Run the dryer and walk outside to the exterior vent hood. The flap should open with warm air pushing out. If it barely moves or feels weak, the vent line is clogged — that's your slow-drying culprit, and a fire risk.
Reset both breaker legs (electric)
An electric dryer runs on 240 volts — two breaker legs. If the drum turns but there's no heat, one leg has tripped. Flip the dryer's breaker fully off, then on. No change? The heat circuit needs a meter.
Listen for the door switch
Open and close the door and listen for a click. A dead door switch is a common 'won't start' cause. No click, no start — that's a quick part for us, but worth ruling in first.
Confirm the gas is on (gas models)
If your gas dryer suddenly won't heat, make sure the gas shutoff behind it is fully open and other gas appliances are working. If the valve's open and it's still cold, it's the igniter or flame sensor — that's us.
Pull it off the wall an inch
A dryer crammed tight against the wall kinks the vent hose. Give it a few inches of clearance and make sure the hose isn't crushed. Sometimes that alone brings drying times back to normal.
Still cold, still slow, or shutting off early? That's the heating element, gas valve, thermal cutoff, or a vent that needs clearing — the parts that need a meter and the panels off. Book same-day dryer repair in San Diego, CA with a flat $80 diagnostic: (858) 788-1552.
What is my dryer code pointing to?
Newer dryers flash a code when something's off. Here are the common ones in San Diego laundry rooms — and notice how many of them are really an airflow problem in disguise.
| Brand | Code | What it means & first step |
|---|---|---|
| Samsung | dC, tS / tO, HE / hE | dC is the door not latching. tS / tO means a thermistor or over-temperature reading — often an airflow issue tripping the heat sensor. HE / hE is a heating error on the element or gas system, and that's a real part. |
| LG | dE, tE, d80 / d90 / d95 | dE is the door, tE a thermistor fault — but d80, d90, d95 are LG telling you the exhaust is 80–95% blocked. That code isn't a broken dryer; it's a vent that needs clearing before anything else. |
| Whirlpool, Maytag & Amana | PF, AF, F-codes | PF is a power-failure flag. AF stands for restricted Air Flow — again, the vent. The F-codes point to control or sensor faults. We read them at the board with a meter rather than guess from the blink. |
What fails, by brand.
Dryers are simpler than fridges, but each platform has its habits. Here's what we replace most across San Diego.
Samsung — "Not Heating" & Thermistors
A Samsung dryer not heating usually lands on the heating element or the thermistor that watches it, and on the thermal fuse that blows when the vent clogs (Samsung flashes an HE heating-error code for it). All routine — and all worth pairing with a vent clear-out so the new part lasts.
LG — "Not Heating" & Sensor Bars
An LG dryer not heating is usually the heating element or a tripped thermal fuse, with the moisture-sensor bars that misread when filmed over and LG's d80/d90 vent-blockage codes close behind. We clean the sensors and the airflow, not just swap parts.
Whirlpool, Maytag & Kenmore — Elements, Fuses & Rollers
These share a platform: heating elements, thermal fuses that trip on restricted airflow, and drum rollers that flatten and thump around the ten-year mark. Element plus a roller-and-belt kit is the standard, durable fix.
GE — Drum Bearings & Controls
GE dryers tend toward front-bearing and drum-glide wear (the squeal and grind), plus the occasional control-board fault when heat or timing drifts with no mechanical cause. We confirm at the board before replacing it.
Bosch & Heat-Pump Units
Bosch front-load and ventless heat-pump dryers are a different animal — condensers, pumps, and sensors instead of a simple element and vent. We service those too, with the diagnostic patience they need.
