What Brings Us Out

The dryer problems we fix most.

Drum Turns, But No Heat

On electric dryers it's usually the heating element, a blown thermal fuse, or a failed thermostat. On gas, it's the igniter, flame sensor, or gas valve coils. We test the heat circuit end to end — and check whether a clogged vent cooked the part in the first place, so it doesn't happen again.

Takes Two or Three Cycles to Dry

The most common dryer call we get — and the one most worth fixing fast. A lint-choked vent traps heat and moisture, so the load never really dries and the machine runs itself ragged. It's also a fire risk. We clear and test the airflow, not just poke at the dryer.

Dryer Won't Start at All

Press start and nothing happens? It's usually the door switch, a blown thermal fuse, or the start switch — and on some models a broken belt locks out the motor entirely. We trace power from the outlet to the motor and find where the circuit breaks.

Motor Runs, Drum Won't Turn

You hear the motor hum but the drum sits still — that's a snapped belt, a worn idler pulley, or seized drum rollers. The belt is the usual culprit and a same-visit fix; rollers and bearings we swap as a set so it stays quiet.

Loud Thumping, Squealing, or Grinding

Each noise points somewhere. Thumping is usually flat or worn drum rollers; squealing is a dry idler or glide; grinding is the rear bearing. We pull the drum, find the worn part, and replace it before it chews up something pricier.

Shuts Off Before the Load Is Dry

A dryer that stops mid-cycle is usually overheating and tripping its safety cutoff — almost always from restricted airflow — or it's a failing thermistor feeding the board a bad read. We find why it's running hot instead of just resetting the trip.

A Burning or Hot Lint Smell

That's lint scorching on the heating element or packed in the vent — stop using the dryer and call us. It's the failure mode behind most dryer fires, and it's exactly what a proper vent clear-out and heat-circuit check prevents.

What the Visit Includes

What you get on every dryer call.

No two dryer jobs are the same — a belt, a heating element, and a gas-valve repair are different work and different parts. Rather than hide that behind a flat number, here's what stays the same on every dryer repair San Diego homeowners book with us.

Gas and electric, both in the wheelhouse
We work on both — electric heating elements and 240-volt circuits, and gas igniters, flame sensors, and valve coils. Gas work gets the extra safety checks it needs; we don't hand it off.
The vent gets checked, not just the dryer
Most 'bad dryer' calls are really an airflow problem. We check the lint path and exterior vent as part of the diagnostic — because a perfect heating element still can't dry through a blocked vent.
$80 diagnostic, applied to the repair
The flat $80 covers the full diagnostic. Approve the work and it comes off the total — you're not paying twice to find the fault and fix it.
A written quote before anything is opened up
Parts, labor, and timeline in writing, approved before we start — the exact fix and price up front, so on a simple dryer you can see plainly why repair usually makes sense.
The common parts already on the van
Heating elements, thermal fuses, belts, rollers, igniters, and thermostats ride with us, so most dryer repairs finish on the first visit. A special-order part gets a firm date.
90-day guarantee, parts and labor
If the same fault returns within 90 days, we come back at no charge — no second diagnostic, no parts cost, no argument.
Try This First

Six quick checks before you call.

A few dryer problems clear up in a few minutes — and they're the same ones that turn into a fire risk if you ignore them. Run these first; if it's still cold, dead, or slow afterward, that's a real repair.

1

Clean the lint screen — really clean it

Empty it every load. If you use dryer sheets, the film builds up invisibly — scrub the screen with soap and water once in a while. A blocked screen is the number-one cause of slow drying and overheating.

2

Check the vent flap outside

Run the dryer and walk outside to the exterior vent hood. The flap should open with warm air pushing out. If it barely moves or feels weak, the vent line is clogged — that's your slow-drying culprit, and a fire risk.

3

Reset both breaker legs (electric)

An electric dryer runs on 240 volts — two breaker legs. If the drum turns but there's no heat, one leg has tripped. Flip the dryer's breaker fully off, then on. No change? The heat circuit needs a meter.

4

Listen for the door switch

Open and close the door and listen for a click. A dead door switch is a common 'won't start' cause. No click, no start — that's a quick part for us, but worth ruling in first.

5

Confirm the gas is on (gas models)

If your gas dryer suddenly won't heat, make sure the gas shutoff behind it is fully open and other gas appliances are working. If the valve's open and it's still cold, it's the igniter or flame sensor — that's us.

6

Pull it off the wall an inch

A dryer crammed tight against the wall kinks the vent hose. Give it a few inches of clearance and make sure the hose isn't crushed. Sometimes that alone brings drying times back to normal.

Still cold, still slow, or shutting off early? That's the heating element, gas valve, thermal cutoff, or a vent that needs clearing — the parts that need a meter and the panels off. Book same-day dryer repair in San Diego, CA with a flat $80 diagnostic: (858) 788-1552.

Error Codes

What is my dryer code pointing to?

Newer dryers flash a code when something's off. Here are the common ones in San Diego laundry rooms — and notice how many of them are really an airflow problem in disguise.

BrandCodeWhat it means & first step
SamsungdC, tS / tO, HE / hEdC is the door not latching. tS / tO means a thermistor or over-temperature reading — often an airflow issue tripping the heat sensor. HE / hE is a heating error on the element or gas system, and that's a real part.
LGdE, tE, d80 / d90 / d95dE is the door, tE a thermistor fault — but d80, d90, d95 are LG telling you the exhaust is 80–95% blocked. That code isn't a broken dryer; it's a vent that needs clearing before anything else.
Whirlpool, Maytag & AmanaPF, AF, F-codesPF is a power-failure flag. AF stands for restricted Air Flow — again, the vent. The F-codes point to control or sensor faults. We read them at the board with a meter rather than guess from the blink.
Brand Intel

What fails, by brand.

Dryers are simpler than fridges, but each platform has its habits. Here's what we replace most across San Diego.

Samsung — "Not Heating" & Thermistors

A Samsung dryer not heating usually lands on the heating element or the thermistor that watches it, and on the thermal fuse that blows when the vent clogs (Samsung flashes an HE heating-error code for it). All routine — and all worth pairing with a vent clear-out so the new part lasts.

LG — "Not Heating" & Sensor Bars

An LG dryer not heating is usually the heating element or a tripped thermal fuse, with the moisture-sensor bars that misread when filmed over and LG's d80/d90 vent-blockage codes close behind. We clean the sensors and the airflow, not just swap parts.

Whirlpool, Maytag & Kenmore — Elements, Fuses & Rollers

These share a platform: heating elements, thermal fuses that trip on restricted airflow, and drum rollers that flatten and thump around the ten-year mark. Element plus a roller-and-belt kit is the standard, durable fix.

GE — Drum Bearings & Controls

GE dryers tend toward front-bearing and drum-glide wear (the squeal and grind), plus the occasional control-board fault when heat or timing drifts with no mechanical cause. We confirm at the board before replacing it.

Bosch & Heat-Pump Units

Bosch front-load and ventless heat-pump dryers are a different animal — condensers, pumps, and sensors instead of a simple element and vent. We service those too, with the diagnostic patience they need.

How It Works

From cold load to fixed, in four steps.

1

Tell us gas or electric, and what it's doing

Call (858) 788-1552 or book online with the brand, whether it's gas or electric, and the symptom — no heat, won't start, taking forever. Reach us before early afternoon and same-day is usually open.

2

The $80 diagnostic

Your technician tests the heat circuit, motor, controls, and the vent airflow, and finds the actual cause. You get a written quote first, and the $80 comes off the total once you approve the work.

3

Most repairs, same visit

Approve it and we go — elements, fuses, belts, rollers, and igniters are already on the van. A special-order part gets a firm follow-up date with no second diagnostic fee.

4

90 days, parts and labor

Every dryer repair carries a 90-day guarantee. If the same fault comes back, we return free — no new diagnostic, no parts charge.

FAQ

Dryer repair — straight answers.

My dryer stopped heating — how fast can you come?
Call before early afternoon and we can usually get a technician out the same day for dryer repair in San Diego. No-heat calls move up the list, and you'll get a 2-hour arrival window by text so you're not waiting around all day.
What does dryer repair cost in San Diego?
It depends on the part and whether it's gas or electric — a thermal fuse or belt is a smaller job than a motor or a gas valve. As a rough guide, most dryer repairs in San Diego start around $250 and run to roughly $450, with a motor or gas-valve job running higher. The flat $80 diagnostic covers finding the fault, you get a written quote before any work, and the $80 comes off the total if you go ahead.
Is it worth repairing a dryer?
Dryers are mechanically simple, so repair usually wins — a heating element, belt, or roller fix on a dryer that's otherwise sound is a straightforward job. We diagnose the actual fault and put the exact part, labor, and price in writing before we touch anything, so you can see for yourself why fixing it is the smart money.
Why is my Samsung or LG dryer not heating?
On both, a dryer that tumbles but blows cold is almost always the heating element or a blown thermal fuse — and the thermal fuse usually blows because a clogged vent let the dryer overheat. Samsung and LG also flash a heating-error code (Samsung's HE) when the element or sensor fails. We test the heat circuit and clear the vent so the new part doesn't blow again, gas or electric.
Why does my dryer take two or three cycles to dry a load?
Almost always airflow. A lint-clogged vent traps heat and moisture, so clothes come out damp and the dryer runs far longer than it should. It's the most common dryer complaint we see — and because trapped lint is a fire risk, it's worth fixing quickly. We clear the vent and confirm the airflow, not just look at the dryer.
Is a clogged dryer vent actually dangerous?
Yes. According to the NFPA, clothes dryers cause close to 3,000 home fires a year in the U.S., and clogged, lint-filled vents are behind about a third of them. Beyond the fire risk, a blocked vent makes the dryer use up to 30% more energy and wears out heating parts early. It's the cheapest safety fix in the laundry room.
Do you clean dryer vents too?
We do — dryer vent cleaning in San Diego is part of every diagnostic we run, since so many 'broken dryer' calls are really a blocked vent. If your dryer runs but won't dry, clearing the vent is often the whole fix, and we can handle it on the same visit as a repair.
Do you work on both gas and electric dryers?
Both. Electric dryers run on a 240-volt circuit with a heating element; gas dryers heat with an igniter, flame sensor, and gas valve. We diagnose and repair either, and gas work gets the extra safety checks it calls for — we don't subcontract it out.
What dryer brands do you repair?
All the common ones — Samsung, LG, Whirlpool, Maytag, GE, KitchenAid, Speed Queen, and Frigidaire — plus front-load and heat-pump units from Bosch and Miele. We just need the brand and model to bring the right parts.
Can you fix a stacked or washer-dryer combo unit?
Yes — stacked towers and combo units are common in San Diego condos and closets, and we handle washer and dryer repair in San Diego on both halves, often in the same visit. If it's the washer side giving you trouble, that's covered in depth on our washer repair page.
What does the 90-day guarantee cover?
Parts and labor, both covered. If the same fault comes back inside 90 days, we return and fix it at zero cost — no new diagnostic fee, no parts charge. We stand behind the repair, not just the part we put in.
